Brixington Blues Under-13s were 4-1 winners when they came up against a Heavitree Youth side that began the day sitting top of the table.
In the early exchanges skipper Jake Haggerty combined with Finn Glanfield to break up a Heavies attack and they got the ball out wide to Jack Drew-Cull who beat an opponent before finding Ethan Beverley who drilled the ball just wide.
The next attack saw Sam Reay and Oliver Bradley combined to find Zac Brown, but the Blues player was crowded out.
It was somewhat against the run of play that the Exeter side took the lead, but the Blues response was superb with Haggerty and Ben Geare involved in the approach play prior to Brown leveling things up and that’s the way it stayed through to the interval.
Whatever was said during the break to the Blues players clearly got through for they were swiftly into their stride after the restart.
Harrison Fox began the move that saw the ball end up with Beverley who played a superb pass in for Brown to fire Blues into a 2-1 lead.
Heavitree hit back and only a wonderful save by Russ Bracey denied them an equaliser before a fine Jayden Marles tackle released Oliver Bradley and he crossed for Beverley to make it 3-1.
Heavitree tried to respond, but they got precious little out of the defending from Joe Gosling, Fin Glanfield and Sam Reay.
The fourth and final Blues goal came after a Beverley shot was parried by the Heavies glovesman only to fall to Elliott Bowyer who drilled it home. The goal was greeted by the entire team celebrating with young Bowyer who had suffered the sad passing of his grand father in the week leading up to the game.
After the match the team dedicated the victory to the memory of Elliott’s grand father.
The Blues Man of the Match award went to the whole team for their superb collective effort against a side that had been unbeaten until they met the mighty Blues!
