Archant

Brixington Blues 2, St Martins 1

Blues Under-10s booked a place in the next round of the Exeter and District Youth League KO cup with a well-deserved success over high flying St Martins, writes Alan Diprose.

Both teams were eager to impress and the game started at quite a pace.

Defenders Luke Buck and Kye Wartnaby were equal to the best attacking intent of the visitors whilst, at the other end of the pitch Tom Humphry and Sam Diprose looked lively, creating a number of opportunities.

However, it was St Martins who scored first! Blues showed good character and looked to respond quickly.

Only the width of the post denied them a leveller before the break, Will White’s shot beating the visiting keeper, but not getting past him!

Five minutes into the second half Blues were level with White finding the back of the net with the cheekiest of goals – the ball crossing the line via his back side!

The visitors rallied and Blues keeper Will Cooper was very busy making some fine saves. Buoyed by the Cooper safe hands Blue pressed for a winner.

With Tom Humphry contesting every single ball in the middle of the park, Blues gathered momentum and it was no surprise when White applied a clinical finish to seal a 2-1 success.
