Boere and Rickard at the double as Town sail into last 16 of County Cup.

Exmouth Town 5 Totnes and Dartington 1

A Dan Boere hat trick eased Town to a comfortable Graddon Vending Devon Premier Cup victory over fellow SWPL side Totnes and Dartington, writes John Dibsdall

Town were sharp and on their game from the outset and had the ball in the net after five minutes only for Ben Shephard’s effort to be ruled out for offside.

The opening goal came on 14 minutes and was the result of excellent build-up play that culminated with a powerful far post header from Boere, converting the cross from Ben Wolley.

On 21minutes Town doubled their lead with Shephard and Boere combining to set up Karl Rickard.

The only blot on Town’s performance came two minutes later when they failed to deal with a corner allowing the ball to be forced home from close range.

From thereon this match became a battle between Town and the visiting keeper Dan Wood. He was smartly off his line to deny Shephard before saving again from Boere.

On fifty three minutes he was powerless to stop an effort from Ace High who had outstripped the defence to score from ten yards. As the onslaught continued he again produced an excellent save from another High effort and it was just a matter of time before Town increased their lead.

On eighty two minutes Boere beat the offside trap to calmly lob the ball over the onrushing ‘keeper.

Boere’s third goal came, for him, in somewhat fortuitous circumstances. A fierce drive from Rickard had goal written all over it before it struck Boere and deflected into the opposite corner of the net to give Town a resounding victory.

Town are back in League action this Saturday when Axminster visit Southern Road with the kick-off being 3pm.

The pair met in the league on the opening day at Sector Lane when neither could find a goal and shared the spoils.

Town were 4-1 winners over the Tigers when the pair last met, more recently, this time in a Throgmorton Cup tie since when Axminster have maintained their own challenge in the league and are currently ahead of Town in third place on goal difference although Town do have a game in hand on them and leaders Newton Abbot Spurs who are a point ahead.
