Brixington Blues Under-13s were worthy winners of their meting with CS Cougars, beating the Mid Devon side 5-2.
It took Blues just five minutes to take the lead, with Joel Knott winning the ball and then releasing Ethan Beverley, who ran on and fired the ball home. The lead lasted barely five minutes with CS Cougars drawing level and they were mighty close to a second but were denied by a splendid save by Blues glovesman Russ Bracey.
Skipper Jake Haggerty linked well with Ben Geare to create the opportunity for Jayden Marles to deliver a telling cross into the area, but again the Cougars goalkeeper was equal to it.
Blues regained the lead with a Jack Drew-Cull goal and it was soon 3-1 after a fine long-range finish from Eliott Bowyer.
Knott fashioned his second assist after linking well with Thomas Rowsell and when the ball fell to young Beverley he netted his second of the game to make it 4-1.
Back came Cougars, but another smart Bracey save denied them a second before Harrison Fox and Lewis Ayley combined to create an opening that led to a Drew-Cull cross being headed home by Beverley, who completed his hat-trick to make it 5-1. Cougars had the final say with a late second, but Blues were worthy winners when the full-time whistle was blown.
