Beasor scores ‘cracker’ as Blues Under-11s defeat Sidmouth

Brixington Blues Under-11s were 3-1 winners when they took on Sidmouth Warriors in an Exeter and District Youth League meeting.
The match was played out on a surface with a significant slope, but neither team resorted to the long ball down, or up, the hill’, both opting instead to get the ball down and attempt to pass which made for a decent contest.
Blues, playing uphill before the break, showed great tenacity, closing down the Warriors’ attacking efforts and, indeed, dominating much of the possession.
The opening goal arrived when Connor McCann’s shot was not gathered correctly by the Warriors’ glovesman and the ball trickled over the line!
If the first goal was fortunate, the second was certainly not! Sustained pressure saw Ashley Billingham thread a great pass through to Oliver Bennet, who, from the edge of the area, unleashed an unstopped shot into the top left hand corner of the net to see Blues into a 2-0 half-time lead.
After the break, Blues served up the ‘goal of the game’! It began with a Jason Robertson ‘burst’ through the middle of the pitch before slotting an inch-perfect pass out to the left wing where the ball was taken on by Joss Beasor, who checked inside, sent the defender the wrong way and Warriors got one back with Blues glovesman Harry Walker helpless to stop a wickedly deflected shot passing him!
That said, it was a deserved goal for a good Warriors side that played their part in a terrific contest.
