Ammies Reserves well beaten at Teburn St Mary

20:27 04 September 2014

Exmouth Amateurs Reserves were given a tough trip to Tedburn St Mary for their first game of the season.

The opening exchanges were even, but it was the home side who struck first with a well rehearsed free kick in the 20th minute.

Ten minutes later the lead was doubled and, despite creating a couple of chances through James Clark, Ammies went into half-time trailing 2-0.

After the break Ammies looked sharper and certainly a yard quicker. Sadly they could not find a goal and fell three down, albeit, against the run of play in the 60th minute.

Ross Matthews, battling bravely on after a first half injury, eventually limped off and, in a 10-minute period, Ammies rang the changes, introducing Adam Barlow, Andy Carder and George Nicholls, the latter for his Ammies debut.

Tedburn were awarded a late penalty, but Pete Hazell made a great save to deny them a fourth.

Ammies boss Rick Withers said: “The endeavour was excellent and each player put in 100 per cent for the cause.”

James Dunigan was named Ammies’ Man of the Match.
