Ashmoor Ladies 5, Exmouth Amateur Ladies 1

Ammies were a good match for the early season table toppers and it was only a blistering finish by the hosts that gave the score line a one-side look about it.

Ammies started brightly and fashioned the first chance of the game with Wills firing just wide. Then Hawkins saw her shot blocked and from the resulting corner a goalmouth scramble followed but Ammies couldn’t apply the finishing touch.

The home side then came more into the contest, but found it difficult to break down a back four superbly marshalled led by Dunn and Hillman which meant Ammies keeper Rose was left to deal with the occasional long-range shot.

Ashmoor did eventually edge ahead. Ammies midfield trio of Beck, Cordwell and Rawlings were seeing plenty of the ball and the pace of Wills, Rowe and Worsley were still creating chances, the best falling to Rowe who shot wide after being put through by Wills.

Ammies deservedly equalised before the break with Cordwell finding Rowe in the box and her neat turn took her away from the defender before firing home. The second half saw much of the same with both teams playing some fine attacking football.

Rose made a couple of great saves for Ammies, but Wills Beck and Worsley also made sure the home keeper was kept game fully employed!

As the game entered the last quarter Ammies created the best chance with Beck sending Worsley clear, but agonisingly her strike hit the outside of the post.

Ashmoor took the lead again with 20 minutes remaining with a long clearance bouncing over Ammies defence before being clinically finished. Although still well in the game Ammies seemed stunned, and, before they could get their shape back, Ashmoor scored again.

With Ammies now pushing players further forward Ashmoor caught them twice on the break to wrap up the victory.

There is saying that lightening never strikes the same place twice, but you’d be hard pressed to find anyone at the ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels subscribing to that adage after seeing their hopes of winning the Premier League Pairs Championship evaporate after having a rider excluded in the Grand Final for the second successive season, to leave their duo of Brady Kurtz and Josh Grajczonek as runners-up to winners Ipswich on the night, writes Ian Belcher.
