Flying winger Richard Bright has made a return to Exmouth.
Bright played all of his junior rugby for the Cockles before being contracted to the Cornish Pirates, Mounts Bay and more recently Launceston.
This is seen as a huge signing, and a very popular one from Head Coach Jon Hill.
He says: “It is absolutely fabulous to have Richard back at his home town club, having spent the past few years playing Championship and National League rugby. Brighty has made a considerable impact in National One and Two, as well as featuring for the Cornish Pirates in the Championship, when fresh out of Ivybridge Community College. He has a huge amount of experience for someone who is still very young and in his prime, and we hope he can continue to be a try scorer for us in our debut National Two season.”
Hill continued: “In previous years, Exmouth have been at a lower level than Richard would have been willing to play at. However, now that we are in the same league as his previous club Launceston, it made complete sense from a geographical and loyalty point of view for him to come back to his hometown club. He is very well known to many of our squad and had been training with us ever since he decided that a place at the University of Gloucester was not of him. His original plan was to play for Cinderford in National One, whilst at University, and as soon as we knew that he was not taking this offer up, we were in constant contact. Richard has already bought into what we are trying to achieve here at Exmouth and his work ethic and professionalism in training has brought an extra dimension to the squad. The signing ticks a lot of the right boxes for us on the basis of him being an Exmouth boy, and his attack minded mentality suits the way in which we approach the game. He will make his debut against Plymouth Albion in next weekends pre season friendly”.
