Exmouth Town 3, Newton Abbot Spurs 2
Exmouth Town produced a second half come-back to bag a 3-2 home midweek win and climb to third in the table.
Town climbed to third in the table after a nail biting finish to their match with second in the table Newton Abbot Spurs, writes John Dibsdall.
Town had to show all of their fighting qualities as they twice came from a goal behind before grabbing the winner in added time.
Town were unlucky to go behind when a shot going wide took a wicked deflection but they quickly recovered and equalised through Ben Shephard.
The visitors went ahead again before the half time whistle capitalising on a rare mistake in the heart of Town’s defence.
The second half saw Town up their game and the “Spurs” goal led a charmed life before Town were awarded a penalty in the seventy eight minute when Phil Everett was tripped in the box, Shepherd making no mistake from the spot drilling the ball into the bottom corner.
This goal brought a brief response from the visitors but Town continued to attack and received their just reward when Dan Boere was on hand to smash a loose ball home.
Town are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Toolstation League Premier Division side Wells City – join us on the Exmouth Journal website for a match preview from midday Friday.
