Exmouth Town face the biggest challenge of their season to date when they travel to much-fancied Plymouth Parkway on Saturday, writes Steve Birley.
Town have made a flying start and went into Wednesday night’s Southern Road meeting with Elmore off the back of three wins.
Their opening home game of the new season saw them thump Liskeard Athletic 4-0 last Saturday with two goals each from master-marksman Jamie Mudge and the talented Lloyd Gardner.
Town boss Pears said: “We had to dig in early on and that’s pretty much how I think much of this season’s home action is going to be for we are up against real quality each week. Unlike last season when we had much of the home games all our own way we are going to face sides at Southern Road this season who fancy taking us on. That means we are going to have to be patient and make sure, when the chances come our way, they are snapped up.”
Pears also revealed that he is delighted with the progress being made by two-goal Gardner.
He said: “Lloyd is a class act and I don’t doubt that he is going to eventually play at a much higher level. I have made him captain as he has shown such maturity during the pre-season work and in the early league matches, not only when he is on the ball, but perhaps more significantly given his captaincy, he reads and understands the game going on around him when he is not on the ball.”
