Evie Jones is still basking in the glory of here recent visit to Wimbledon were she met tennis legend Tim Henman, writes Stephen Birley.
The 14-year-0ld Colyton Grammar School student spent a week at the All England Club in South West London where she made friends with girls from other counties and from India, the latter sending four aspiring players for the first time. The highlight of the week was a party for all the Under-14 players met Evie met and spoke with Tim henman.

Last year Evie was part of the Colyton School team that played at the National Schools Tennis Championships in Sheffield where it was something of a ‘family affair;’ as also I action there was her brother Sebastian representing Exmouth Community College!
This year Evie entered ‘The Road to Wimbledon’ competition, playing a series of matches over the course of the year, prior to enjoying the week in London.
Evie trains each week at the Exmouth Tennis Centre where she has played for several years. Her coaches at Exmouth are Derek Blackmore and Liam Storey. Apart from the visit to Wimbledon, this year the youngster has been part of a successful season for Budleigh Salterton ladies team partnering in doubles matches, Natasha Metjzner, another previous ‘Road to Wimbledon’ finalist.
Evies mother Jujne says: “Evie hopes to keep playing tennis through school and at her local club, to meet new friends and keep fit. She enjoys the fact that tennis is both competitive and a social sport for all levels of player.”
