The Kite Race European Championships in Italy bought the best racers to the town of Gizzeria at the Hang Loose Beach. Following the first two days of the qualifying series the 78 men’s fleet was split into gold and silver.
Exmouth’s Oliver Bridge represented GB in the gold fleet and, after seven races, he had secured five wins to hold a 16-point advantage over local boarder Ricarrdo Leccese with French ace Maxine Nocher sitting third heading into the final event – the medal trace.
This took the form of four shorter races with riders on 17mtr Dyno kites and using their biggest fins.
Fifteen-year-old Oliver showed great maturity to hold things together and remain in control of the regatta securing himself triple success for he is now the Under-18, Under-21 and the men’s European champion!
The Exmouth Community Colleges student is indebted to the support he receives from the Cranford Club and Edgewatersports in Exmouth.
Making it an al-round family success story, Oliver’s mother, Steph Bridge won the women’s fleet.
Bridge senior also currently holds the women’s masters title.
Next up for the talented Bridge crew is preparation for the World Championships in China in November where the final showdown for the year will take place.
