A new basketball season begins next month of the Exmouth Jesters, writes Graham Grove.
After a very successful season last year, coming third overall in the league and second in the play-offs of the Exeter and District League, the club has high hopes for the new campaign which begin on September 20.
This will be the fourth year Exmouth Jesters have competed in the Exeter and District League and also the second season for the Jesters second string who finished a most respectable sixth in their inaugural campaign last time round.
In the four years since their launch the Jesters have gone from strength to strength.
The opening season resulted in a bottom two finish with four wins from 20 outings.
Last season eleven matches were won and several others were lost by single points!
A third placed finish last term saw Jesters into the play-offs at Paignton where they drew rivals Exeter- based Devon Peelers.
Jesters won that game and bagged a play-off final berth where they met a very strong Torbay Tigers team, who had only lost one game during the regular season – to Jesters!
The Tigers exacted revenge in that play-off final.
Since they end of last season the club has been holding regular training sessions and a number of new players have been recruited. The second string is also coming along nicely, introducing a number of new young players to the sport.
Players are recruited from across East Devon and current team member’s travel from Exeter, Sidmouth, Honiton and Axminster.
Training sessions are held every Friday evening from 7pm until 9pm at Exmouth College.
If anyone would like to play for the club or just get along to train and become involved they can find out more via the Jesters Facebook page or through the club’s twitter account.t team coach Julez Menzies is available via email at Julezy9@gmail.com.
