Ellie Sutcliffe was in Dawlish last week for the Coastal Dash of around four miles of paths and beach, writes Dave Eveleigh.
She was 13th of 144 finisher and first woman.
Before that though Ellie had a foray into the world of triathlon at Taunton School on June 1.
It would be quite easy to imagine Ellie, with her physical stamina and mental determination, as a triathlete.
She described this as a bit of an experiment though and had not invested in specialist equipment.
That meant no racing bike and the effect of this was made worse by a late adjustment to the cycle course for safety reasons which increased the ride from 20 to 30km. So a 400m swim was completed by Ellie in 8:29, which she was happy with but by the end of the bike section (taking 66 minutes) she was 100th.
Not surprisingly Ellie shone in the 5K run, completing it in a very impressive 18:35 and finished the event 79th and seventh female.
Overall a satisfying performance reports Ellie but she has no inclination to add the prefix tri to her current sporting speciality.
