Exmouth Harriers continue to do well at the Killerton parkrun events

09:19 30 January 2014

The National Trust’s Killerton Estate continues to play host to weekly Parkruns (at 9am each Saturday), writes Dave Eveleigh.

Around Christmas and new year the presence of club names from all over the country was particularly noticeable. Parkrun is a nation-wide event and it looks as if in some families a run has replaced the traditional ‘walk the pud off’ post-Christmas stroll, with visiting relatives knowing all about Parkrun and either taking or following local family members to it.

In January the Exmouth team name was again prominent in the KIllerton results, with fields averaging 150. It is a while since Ellie Sutcliffe troubled her Personal Best time here, and in current weather conditions that is likely to continue for the moment but during January Ellie has finished as high as third overall and has been first woman twice, with a monthly best time of 19:19.

The name Dupain has been cropping up on a regular basis at Killerton in recent weeks. On January 4, Nigel posted a course personal best time of 27:02 when he also finished first Man Aged 60-64, a week later setting another PB of 25:52. Jill Dupain has been second Woman aged 60-64, but is another whose attempts to post a new PB for the course must have been hampered by underfoot conditions.

Chris Dupain has had a best position of 13th and a best time for the month of 20:35. On January 4, Chris’s sister Emma White did well to notch up a course personal best time, of 24:34.

Adam Miller was one of the earliest Killerton Parkrunners and has run the 5km event over one hundred times, finishing first twenty-five times.

In January though, Adam only ran the once, but he did finish fourth.

Mike Keep has run a couple of times during the month and finished first Man aged 70-74 in the January 25 meet.

Lee Russell ran twice in January and Jon Garrity, once but neither came up with any outstanding performance this time. Roger Rowe’s performances don’t stand out as much as they used to (although he was first Man Aged 65-69 in January) but what is obvious is that he seems to enjoy almost as much facilitating the opportunity to run for others.

His 196th position on January 11, seems to suggest Roger’s volunteer post that week was to be the event’s equivalent of cycling’s ‘broom wagon’!
