The Saturday morning Parkrun at Killerton is now regularly attracting over 300 runners, writes Dave Eveleigh.
There continues to be a regular Exmouth Harriers presence both on the run and amongst the volunteers who look after those runners.
Roger Rowe and Les Turner are prominent Exmouth names in the administrative group. Andy Kennedy also took a turn at organisational duties recently and has as well produced an impressively consistent string of results in May and early June.
On May 17, Andy just missed out on being first in the men age 55-59 category, but set a new personal best for the course of 20:50.
He was fastest in his age group for the next three weeks recording 21:08, 20:51 and 21:08 again, at the last of these runs just holding off Ian Teague of SWRR for the age group win.
Ellie Sutcliffe races so often that she should be allowed sole local use of the word ‘prolific’ in this context.
Ellie was first woman twice and finished in the top ten overall in three races over May and June. Cathy Newman was faster than Ellie on May 17 and fourth overall, Cathy an over 50 too!
Adam and Carly Miller are not at the runs quite as regularly as in the past, but Adam still notched a win and a second place in this late Spring period. Nigel and Jill Dupain are another couple who are now there pretty often and Jill is usually among the top three in her age group. These two may be in danger of suffering from runner’s lawn syndrome where the runner’s home can be recognised by the long grass caused by Saturday mornings where a run takes priority over getting that mower out of the shed!
In a single appearance Mike Keep was very close (10 seconds) to his course personal best, but was top in his 70 plus age group and Mike Musgrove was also 10 seconds outside of his PB a week later when he was second overall.
