Exmouth Harrier Sutcliffe enjoys trip to compete in the Wambrook Waddle

10:57 22 May 2014

Exmouth Harrier Ellie Sutcliffe travelled to Somerset last Sunday to take part in the inaugural Wambrook Waddle, writes Dave Eveleigh.

Organised by the Chard Running Club the event started and finished at the Tithe Barn in Cotley (race HQ was inside a cider press!).

The irrepressible Ellie says it was the toughest 10K she had ever done, claiming it was tougher than Killerton and the Sidmouth Festival put together! Hence a ‘personal worst’ time of 49 minutes.

However, she continues to remind us that ‘sisters are doing it for themselves’ as Annie Lennox put it, finishing fifth overall of about 100 runners, and first female.

The event basically involved running down and up three steep valleys and crossing streams at the bottom of each one with the hot weather making the mix more potent.

Sutcliffe said it was all ‘great fun’ and her experience reminds us that running or indeed any sport is not just about trophies or even personal targets!
