Exmouth Harrier Scott Jordan conquers the Exe to Axe event

09:57 03 April 2014

In his heyday Alf Tupper was known as the ‘Tough of the Track’, writes Dave Eveleigh.

The emphasis now in amateur running circles is much less on multiple circuits of the 400m oval so perhaps we could use the sobriquet ‘Tough of the Trail’ for Exmouth Harrier Scott Jordan, for he is surely now entitled to be rid of all references to his performances in the ‘Four Trigs’ race!

At the week-end Scott finished 30th in a field of 171 runners who took on the challenge of the Exe to Axe race. If you have been on the stretch of coastal path that links the estuaries of those two rivers you will be well aware that it is a genuine challenge too, with the steep climbs being just part of that! Scott covered the route in a splendid time of 3:38:57.

Club-mate Nicholas Brown was 82nd in 4:12:44. With Axe Valley Runners’ famous ‘Grizzly’ race taking place just up the road and this Sidmouth Running Club event, East Devon is something of a centre for Marathon equivalent off-road races.
