Following the final Premier League match of the season at the Maer, Exmouth Cricket Club’s Colts celebrated their own season with a Hog Roast, Sumo wrestlers and water slides, followed by the presentation of the season’s awards by club captain, Richard Baggs.
Club Chairman, Richard Butler, welcomed the large number of colts and families in attendance and in particular praised the efforts of the club coaches, the team managers and the parents who had helped transport the colts teams around the County.
Special thanks were given also to Debbie Austen for her work in organising Friday night practice sessions and to Kay Loman, of the T-Hut, for her help in organising the evening’s events.
In a season heavily disrupted by the weather there had been several outstanding performances in the three teams run by the club at Under-11, 12 and 15 level .
Although no League titles were won these encouraging signs augur well for next season when it is hoped that extra teams will be added to the age ranges.
Awards were made for batting, bowling and fielding in the three age groups. Ben Vine won the Under-11 batting award whilst Sam Austen (fielding) and Phoebe Andrews (bowling) were the other award winners in the age group.
Max Reader won the Under-12 batting award and the other winners in that age group were Luke Davies (bowling) and Max Seager (fielding).
In the Under-15 section Callum Wade picked up the bating honour and Nicky Bolt the bowling award whilst then fielding award in then oldest colt age group was Olivia Young.
The Exmouth Under-15s lost narrowly to Ottery St Mary in the play off for the Bradleys East Devon Under-15 League title despite outstanding performances with the bat and ball from Nicky Bolt (38), Harry Conway (3-13) and 10-year-old Luke Davies (2-20).
