An Exmouth Belle, Joe Cooke, recently took part in the Edinburgh Marathon.

The race was launched in 2003 and has continually grown in popularity and stature, gaining a reputation for one of the fastest marathon routes in Britain.

Despite injury Joe managed to complete the 26.2-mile course in just over five hours. What was also most impressive was that Joe and her husband Cookie raised £1,000 for Crohn’s disease. This brings the Belles fundraising efforts to close to £10,000 in a year for various charities.

The Belles were also celebrating last week when three ‘beginner Belles’- Sue Millard, Esther Workman and Emma McBryan joined 11 other Belles at the Dawlish Dash four-mile run hosted by the Dawlish Coasters.

The three beginner Belles started running at Easter and were enthusiastic to consolidate their running achievements. The Dawlish Dash is not for the faint hearted. The first mile-and-a-half is spent running on sand. The remaining three miles include steps, hills and running in the coastal path. Despite the tough terrain the Belles are looking forward to the next event.
