West Hill Wasps 3, Exmouth Amateurs 1

Exmouth Amateurs Under-12 managed to do what no other side had managed so far this season, score at the home of table-topping West Hill Wasps.

It was Sam Wheeler who ended the Wasps’ wonderful defensive record with a sweet strike from 20-yards to give Ammies a lead that they carried into half-time.

The home team made a powerful start to the second half, but the Ammies defence was equal to the best they could serve up. Things were close to being even better for the Ammies when Max Hadford looked set to double the lead only for his effort to be desperately cleared off the line!

It was not until there were just 15 minutes remaining that the impressive Ammies back line was breached. Seven minutes later a well struck free-kick gave the home side the lead.

Ammies were quickly back onto the front foot, but, as so often happens in such instances, as they threw players forward in a brave bid for an equaliser, they were exposed at the back and were hit by a counter-attack by the home side that gave them a flattering 3-1 success.

Ammies are without a game this weekend. They have two more to play before Christmas with a December 14 visit from West Exe Warriors followed seven days later by a visit from Okehampton Argyle.

Ten games into their 24-game season Ammies sit seventh in the table with a dozen points.
