Last Sunday, Tommy Poli who trains at Exmouth Tennis and Fitness Centre competed in an LTA Green Ball Event at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton against other top ten and under players from across the South East Region of the UK. The youngster payed well on the day winning one match and losing two, both by the narrowest of margins.

East Devon Tennis Academy Coach Liam Storey travelled up to the event to prepare Poli for the competition and to watch and analyse his matches.

Storey said: “It was a great opportunity to watch Tommy play in a competitive environment and to see what went well and what needs working on in his game. I was able to chart Tommy’s matches which provides me lots of good information about what to work on over the coming months.”

Poli said: “I think Liam (coach Liam Storey) understands me better now and why I sometimes get a little bit frustrated when I am not playing the best tennis I can play and I know I can play a lot better and Liam can now understand what game play I have to work on for example, finishing the rally off, not trying to hit winners too early - build the point up and my serves; taking the ball at the top of the bounce. It was really good to have him there at the tournament.”

The East Devon Tennis Academy would like to say a big thank you to Lawrence Mitchell (LDM Landscape, Design and Maintenance) for his support of the academy which allowed both coach and young tennis starlet to travel to this event courtesy of the sponsorship he has given the academy.
