It’s been a good start to the season for the Exmouth Swimming and Life Saving society, writes Ian Lang.

The annual Christmas Cracker event was contested over two weekend’s due to the popularity of the competition that sees teams from Exmouth, Sidmouth and Honiton go in search of supremacy in the pool!

This meeting incorporates individual medals for the top swimmers in each age group and a team trophy for the top club

Exmouth defended their title well and only just lost out to Sidmouth by a small margin after the final swim.

Some good times were achieved by the Exmouth swimmers; most notably Jack Sidgwick who has qualified for next seasons County Championships in the 100m fly event. The final scores were Sidmouth 664, Exmouth 631, Honiton 203.

In between the Christmas Cracker a selection of the disability swimmers headed off to Southampton to swim in the South-East Regional championships.

There were some fine performances with Joseph Day winning the 100m freestyle in a new personal best, finish second in the 100m individual medley in another PB and also claimed a second place ion the 100m backstroke.

Callum Rowcliffe claimed second spot in the 100m freestyle, swimming a season’s best time and then bagged a brace of first places in the 100m individual medley and the 200m freestyle.

Jack Sidgwick claimed four first places coming home ahead of the field in the 100m individual medley, the fly (this in a personal best time), the 100m back stoke and the 50m freestyle, the latter in a new PB.

Kieran Tellem bagged a fourth in the 100m individual medley, a sixth in the 50m fly with a PB and second in both the 100m breaststroke and the 100m backstroke.
