Number Nine B tightened their hold on the Exmouth Snooker League with consecutive wins over two Police Social Club teams.

Dave McCarthy 63-40, Russell Frame 80-68 and Johnathan Duck 71-38 out-stripped their nearest rivals, Police C, before John Anderson 62-28 and John Evens 49-40 reduced the losing margin to a single point.

Police B were 2-1 ahead of the defending champions through Bob Horton 49-24 and Tom Caygill 79-51, but, let the lead ebb away as Chris Sharland 58-35, Tim Thorn 52-32 and John Sharland 64-31 made home table advantage count.

Police C remained in second place after Ray Sturman 70-28 and John Parrott 68-65 were level after four frames with Iain Callander 72-27 and Tim Parker 53-27 of the Number Nine A. John Anderson was awarded the deciding point as the Number Nine had no fifth player.

Number Nine A had all five players present away at the Police B, where Dennis Robb 62-30 and Tim Parker 56-31 nullified the lead of Frank Kelsey 77-26 and Phil Rowsell 67-54. But, victory was secured for the home team, on the black, by Tom Caygill 70-61.

Exmouth and Exeter revive the “Battles of the Exe” of yesteryear when the two Leagues meet in the quarter-finals of the Bilby Cup, at the Police Social Club, this coming Saturday (29th) over five frames, starting 7pm.
