With the Olympics and Paralympics now over one of the most important points raised about the events as a whole is the element of Legacy!

The basketball community that has developed in Exmouth in recent years is certainly doing everything it can to help ensure that the aspiring goals linked to legacy are met.

Exmouth Jesters Basketball Club was formed in the summer of 2010 via a project that started in Spring 2009 called, Bridge Building Basketball Exmouth. The project was initially orchestrated by friends Chris Davy and Ben Adams. Along with several other roles, Davy took on the role of Chair for the Jesters and stayed in post until the end of the 2011/12 season. Davy says: “I am immensely proud of what has been achieved in Exmouth, not only with the Jesters but also with the Exmouth Community College programme. Stepping down as chairman is something that I wanted to do and certainly haven’t felt forced to do. It’s a situation where I feel it is important I give up my position for the greater good of the club. Things can often benefit from a shake up and this is one of those occasions. I’m far from done yet however! I still have a lot of hunger to achieve and my next project is just around the corner.”

The forthcoming 2012/13 season will be the Jester’s third campaign in the Exeter and District League. This term there’s also a new 2nd team in the league, that being a grand first for the club to have two sides in the league at the same time.

Davy will be assisting Chris Worcester in the running of the 2nd team. Club treasurer and secretary Julez Menzies will be continuing his role as head coach of the 1st team.

The new chairman of the club is Exmouth Community College teacher Gavin Dawkins who says: “It’s a real pleasure for me to have taken on the role. The development of the club is something I have watched with great satisfaction since its formation. Now that I am in the role of chair I hope to bring my years of experience and knowledge to the club to ensure it continues to produce not only great players, but also a positive atmosphere and vibe. Anyone interested in being involved should get in touch.”

The club is still actively looking for new players, coaches and table officials. Training and games take place on Thursday’s for the 2nd team with a 7pm to 9pm slot in the sports hall at the Community College. The 1st team will also train there on Friday’s (also 7pm – 9pm).

The first training session is free! For more details on the club please visit www.jestzoo.com or contact coach Julez Menzies on 07971 115145.
