Five Exmouth Harriers - Ray Elston, Hugh Marsden, Dawn Teed, Alison White and Des White - represented the South West Veterans Athletic Club in the England Athletics Masters Association 2017 Cross Country Inter Area Challenge at Bournemouth, writes Cathy Newman.

The race was over a testing and undulating 4.5-mile course under blue skies and bright sunshine, but the runners had to battle with a very chilly northerly wind on each of the three 1.5-mile laps around the Kings Park Sports arena.

Hugh was the first Exmouth Harrier to finish in 16th place in 30.00, Des was next in 31.25 followed by Alison in 36.39, Ray in 37.12 and Dawn in 37.53.

The South West Veterans Athletic Club won the team trophy, beating teams from the other areas, including London, The South, The Midlands and The North.
