The cross-country season came to a magnificent finale for Exmouth Harriers on the first Sunday of March, writes Cathy Newman.

No fewer than six runners claimed top three individual finishes for the series.

In addition, the men’s team finished third in the senior men’s race and second in the vet men’s race.

The competition, in Redruth, was the culmination of a six race series around the south west in the highly competitive Westward League.

On the day, Rob Ellis, who has been improving all season, ran brilliantly to take second place.

Next home in Harriers’ colours was Jim Palmer, finishing 10th with Anthony Hatchard in 12th.

Dave Stone was 29th, Mac McNaghten 35th, Hugh Marsden 48th and Des White 58th.

Jim Palmer was a convincing winner of the M45 category, whilst Anthony Hatchard narrowly missed out on a M40 win, settling for second.

Des White added another M60 title to his collection and Hugh Marsden was third M55. In the ladies’ series, Kate Baker was third in the F35 age group and Susan Hill third in the F55 age group.

In Redruth, Kate was 45th and Alison White 68th.

With such strong results this looks set to be a good year for the club with the next major fixture being the National 12 stage road relay next week.
