Four Exmouth Belles travelled to Calne in Wiltshire to take part in a super sprint triathlon held at Bowood House and Gardens.
The swim-bike-run event took place within 100 acres of beautiful parkland, designed by ‘Capability’ Brown.
The 400m swim took place in the fresh water private lake set in the lower part of Bowood House.
Next up the swimmers had to run up 700m of steep path to the transition area on the finely manicured lawns under the shadows of the house. Following transition, competitors exchanged wetsuits for bikes and cycled 12k around the ‘wilder’ parts of Bowood Estate, looping around the grounds past Bowood Golf Course, farm and Lord Lansdowne’s private driveway.
After completing the cycle stage, competitors changed mode of transport to a picturesque 2.5k run around the estate, taking in stunning scenery of Bowood Lake, the Cascade Waterfall and the homes Doric Temple.
The Exmouth running Belles, who are relatively new to the world on triathlons, demonstrated they were serious contenders in the field of 77.
Chris Doe, Clare Medlock and Sue Hill entered as a trio in the team event. Doe completed her debut open water lake swim in an impressive time of 13.46. Medlock then took over the baton completing the bike ride in 27.30 and Hill ran through the finish line in 12.03. The total time of 54.48 meant the Team Belles claimed second place in the team event and 13th place overall.
Christine Doe also entered as a single competitor for the event. Her steely determination and fluid transitions meant her impressive overall time of 56.45 meant she was fourth overall female to cross the finish line as well as being part of the second place team event.
Maxine Fergurson who was also taking part in her first open water swim and third ever triathlon managed the swim in 13.40 resulting in a seventh place finish in her category. Her overall time of 1.02 represented a new personal best for the triathlon distance.
