Exejets ended the Comets’ unbeaten start to the new Exmouth Netball League campaign with a 41-34 success.

Both teams fielded strong squads for a contest that was well balanced right though until the final quarter.

With clinical shooting from Laura Gregory and Sophie Tokens, Exejets took the lead in the first quarter despite some great defence from Yvonne Sparks and Annabel Russel.

Comets were excellent opposition though, with wing attack Bryony Monaghan, centre Emily Mcary and wing defence Joe Sunter, making sure that the contest was even throughout.

For Exejets, the centre court players Rachael Anning, Zoe Anstead and Shelley Brooks interchanged well and made excellent interceptions interrupting Comets’ play and turning over centre passes.

Going into the final quarter, Exejets led 38-30, but Comets’ shooters Pamela Taylor and Cara Monaghan impressed with almost 100 per cent accuracy in front of goal and the gap was closed at one stage to a margin of just four goals.

However, Exejets, with goal defence Shannon Beverley and goalkeeper Jasmin Horne making some impressive interceptions and turning the ball over, held firm and closed the game out to win by that four goal margin.

Replay also took on their ‘sister team’ Assent in what also proved to be a close encounter. Replay emerged victorious to the tune of a 41-34 score line with the respective Player of the Match award winners being Janko Salzwedel for Replay and Louise Cocks for Assent.
