Exe IIs were edged out by the odd goal in five when they took on second-in-the-table Yeovil and Sherborne.

Befitting a team of such lofty status, Yeovil and Sherborne began confidently and scored twice in the first 15 minutes.

Exe worked hard to get a foothold in the game. They began to see more of the ball and created some good attacking play.

An altercation towards the baseline saw the opposition goalkeeper receive a yellow card and Exe took full advantage to pull a goal back and that is the way the match stayed through to half-time. However, early in the second half Yeovil and Sherborne scored a superb third goal from a short corner to increase their lead to 3-1.

Exe hit back and netted a second from a short corner. That set up a frenetic final quarter with end-to-end action through to the final whistle.

In a good all-round team performance the stand-out individual shifts came from Sian Williams, Clare Whitworth and Alice Bradley.

The Exe 1st XI were left without game when scheduled opposition Bristol University were unable to field a side and handed Exe a walkover.

Exe III shared six goals with Taunton Vale IIs.
