It is the turn of the Modbury Harriers to hold their Point-to-Point at Flete Park on Saturday (May 3), writes Donna Harris.

Pony racing heads up the action at 1pm, with a six-race main card starting at 2pm.

Their feature race of the day is The George Baskerville Ladies’ Open Four Mile Race, included in the entries will be the Ross Oliver-trained Wee Fly. She is a course specialist, having won six time at this track, and this year, under jockey Bryony Frost, could see her take the Ladies’ Open four mile race for the fifth year in a row. The Rose Loxton-trained Join Together is another entry that could go well, for jockey Megan Nicholls, having won last weekend at Stafford Cross, or another to challenge could be the Camilla Scott-trained Gone To Lunch, having a total of nine Point wins and two seconds in Scottish Nationals, he is a true stayer, and won impressively, snatching a win at Treborough Hill under jockey Laura Scott.

In the first open maiden race, a suggestion would be Madam Be, having run second at the Dartmoor meeting here. The Doom Bar is also entered and should be popular, having run second for trainer/jockey Will Biddick at Kingston St Mary.

Stanley Carpets sponsor the restricted race, in which Ambitious Pursuit could follow up on his win here two weeks ago for the Glanville family. Another to consider is Whispering Wild, who also won his previous race here over the longer trip. Gontdevon from the Robert Chanin team could also go well having scored two previous seconds at this track.

Lady Annabel from the Polly Gundry team looks to be the likely favourite in the open maiden two- mile four- furlong race, after her second at Hackwood Park. Beetle Jack under jockey Darren Edwards, could improve on his third here, and is a worthy each-way bet.

The two Ed Walker-trained entries of Hameldown Tor and Before The War, hold strong claims in the competitive Kitson Solicitors-sponsored mens open race. Swansbrook won this race last season, and Right Enough for the Hand family won the restricted here two weeks ago could also go close.

In the final race of the day, the Meadowside & St Francis-sponsored confined race, suggestions would be the front running Ned White and Before The War if not running in the previous race.

The course offers stunning views of Flete Park, making it an ideal picnic spot, a host of trade stands, bar, bookies and hot refreshments.

Entrance is £10 car and driver £20 car and passengers. Location is Ermington, nr Ivybridge, Postcode PL21 ONX
