Neptune Collonges, Grand National Winner, will parade at the Cattistock point to point before racing on Monday May 7.

Archant

Racegoers will have the added attraction of seeing Grand National winner Neptune Collonges, together with Champion Hurdle winner Rock On Ruby, who is stabled within sight of the course, parade before the first point-to-point race at the Cattistock Hunt point to point at Littlewindsor on Monday, May 7.

And the Wessex Area pony racing finals will now be held BEFORE racing at 1pm.

Southwestern is the obvious favourite for the Men’s Open if connections opt for another point-to-point outing before the gelding bids for a third Horse & Hound Cup win on 1st June. Possible challengers include Andoversford runner-up Dinnie O, Gunner Be Quick, runner-up to Southwestern in April’s contest, and Pastek and Tres Bien, who have won five races between them this season. Offshore Account, third in the 2011 Aintree Foxhunter and a dual Barbury Castle winner this season, is the danger, but Southwestern is the selection.

Citizens Arrest, the second of Jane Williams’ three winners at Woodford on Saturday, has chances of following up in the Ladies’ contest. Opposition could include West Country pointing stalwart Dr Cerullo, who was denied an opportunity at Sunday’s postponed Axe Vale fixture and Ha Ho Magregor, who threw away a winning opportunity by swerving at Buckfastleigh. Alex Dunn has travelled Rainbow Tree from Taunton to win in East Anglia and Wales this season, but can make it three at one of her more local venues.

Barneys Mate, Feathers Fly, the subsequently disqualified Light Touch and Nobody Tells Me were the first four home here in April’s novice riders’ contest, and all hold entries for Monday’s equivalent event. Barneys Mate cannot be opposed but Pastek and Unleash, the winner of both his 2012 races under Dominic Sutton, may be the strongest challengers on this occasion.

Richard Barber is responsible for all three entries in the Hunt Members’ race. 2011 winner My Minds Maid can retain the Cup at the expense of stable companions Dancingtilmidnight and Highland Retreat.

Trebudannon winner Silver Commander and Spot The Grey, who was third to Buck’s Bond on the same card, are two to consider in the Restricted. Highland Retreat will be supported if connections opt for this race, but Cothelstone winner King Of Alcatraz was only three lengths behind Buck’s Bond when capsizing at Trebudannon and is fancied to gain compensation.

Two Maiden races complete the card. Brockwell Park, who caught the eye when third here in April, is entered in both and will be the selection in his chosen race. Beady Eye looks the alternative in the 2m4f contest. Wricksons Bridge finished in front of Brockwell Park in April and is the obvious danger in the 3 mile event.

The course lies off the A3066 between Beaminster and Crewkerne (DT8 3QU). First race: (ponies) 1pm; (point-to-point) 2.00pm. Admission is £20 per car for up to four adults (extra adults £5 each), with a concession for single occupants; under 16s free.
