William Fox-Pitt joins a line-up of distinguished equestrian riders showing support for Alzheimer’s Research UK, charity of the year for the 2013 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials. Three times world number one and nine times British number one, William has his sights on the Rolex Grand Slam at Badminton this year.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading charity specialising in finding preventions, better forms of diagnosis, new treatments and a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The charity relies entirely on public donations to fund its pioneering work at leading universities nationwide.

William explained his motivation for endorsing Alzheimer’s Research UK’s involvement in the 2013 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials:

“Badminton is one of the world’s most prestigious equestrian events. Each year it provides a wonderful platform for its nominated charity to raise money and awareness. Alzheimer’s Research UK is a hugely deserving cause, dedicated to defeating dementia and giving hope to people now and future generations. I hope as many people as possible will join me in supporting the research experts to help raise much needed funds.”

Rebecca Wood, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “We are proud to be chosen as charity of the year for the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials and thrilled to have the endorsement of William Fox-Pitt, one of Britain’s most successful event riders. We are hugely grateful to William for his support and wish him great success at this year’s event.

“Every £20 raised for Alzheimer’s Research UK during the Badminton Horse Trials will pay for another hour of vital research, bringing us closer to our vision of a world free from Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. There are 820,000 people in the UK living with dementia today yet funding for research still lags far behind other serious diseases. Support from events like Badminton plays a key part in helping us progress our crucial research.”

Alzheimer’s Research UK is looking for volunteers to help at the event. For further details please email badminton@alzheimersresearchuk.org or call 01223 843899. More information about the charity is available at www.alzheimersresearchuk.org

The Mitsubishi Badminton Horse Trials take place from Thursday 2 May to Monday 6 May. Visit www.badminton-horse.co.uk for more details.
