Pony Club members flocked to Kelsell Hill in Cheshire to compete at the novice Pony Club championships, which events included team and individual competitions for dressage, showjumping and eventing.

Five members of the East Devon branch took teams for both the eventing and showjumping phases. The showjumping team was Flora Fraser, Hattie Pike, Ellie Sanders and Harrison Oakley who gained an early draw and had to contend with slippery ground after heavy overnight rainfall, but all went safely round to go through to the second round on a score of zero.

The challenging second-round course required riders to remain balanced and controlled, but the team were unlucky to have a few poles down which left them on a final score of four. Out of 44 teams, the East Devon branch posted an excellent sixth placing.

The eventing team also collected sixth place out of 40 teams - Flora Fraser, Ellie Sanders, Emily Woodruff and Harrison Oakley all rode calm, accurate dressage tests to put them into a strong position for the showjumping. On the final discipline, cross country, with each member coming home clear they were rewarded with the Horsemanship prize, which was awarded by judges for the most competent cross-country round as a team.
