The glorious surroundings of Flete Park is the venue for this weekend’s Point to Point racing on Saturday April 21. The Dartmoor Foxhounds host the first of two meetings here and with over 100 entries received for the main card plus two pony races which start at 1pm, it promises to be an action packed day for all the family, writes Donna Harris.

The first race of the main card is scheduled for 2pm with The Bill Goodman Memorial Hunt Members race (including Modbury Members) kindly sponsored by Sally Goodman.

Twelve are entered including Barney Again who had an impressive win at Kilworthy in a split Maiden beating his 14 rivals. Owned and trained by Dartmoor Hunt Master Mike Weir, he then followed up with a creditable second to Bucks Bond. Sunken Secret should come on for his fourth at Cherrybrook first time out. Owned and trained locally by Lee Glanville this seven year old gelding won his Maiden in Ireland last season and looks a promising type.

Turning Tide is a previous course winner here and has been in the frame three times this season for his owner Charlie Stanley who will be hoping he puts his nose in front again.

Eighteen are entered in The Restricted which is sponsored by Gillard Motors. Searree looks on form clocking up two win so far, the latter being at Trebudannan in a quick time beating the odds on favorite Wee Fly into third. Fairhaven pleased his connections winning at Buckfastleigh in February jumping his way to the front to beat Lightening Jack by six lengths. Shanann Star won her Maiden at Buckfastleigh in March and had been running consistently well in her previous three races.

Totnes and Bridgetown Races sponsor the four mile Mixed Open and 12 are entered. Ross Oliver’s Wee Fly is a previous course winner here and has wins in double figures. She won the Mixed Open at Great Trethew in February beating Prince de Bersy and Teri D Trixter. She was then sent of odds on favorite at Trebudannan on Easter Monday and was only beaten into third by three quarters of a length behind Searree in ground that was softening.

Jopero was second at Trebudannan just failing by a neck to Total Containment. This Richard Woollacot-trained gelding already has two wins to his credit this season.

The Open Maiden (2m 4f) has attracted 21 entries. This is sponsored by Francis Clarke. Derniere Dance and Palfrey Boy have both clocked up seconds and look to be Maiden winners soon.

Rogers of Plymouth sponsor the Confined with 16 entered.Direct Flight was second at Trebudannan to Searee being denied a win by only a neck, and beating Wee Fly into third. Gun Park trained by Sam Holdsworth will be looking for a seasons hat trick having won at Buckfastleigh and Ideford but will need to reverse his result at Kilworthy when third to Jopero and Brook Castle. Hereweareagain is another looking for a hat tick with wins at Great Trethew and Cherrybrook to his credit this season.

The Elizabeth May Memorial Intermediate is sponsored by Full Circle Motors. Nine are entered.

Certain Flight ran a good second to Books Review at Chipley Park and followed that up with a win at Kingston St Mary when sent off favorite. Googoobarabajagal ran second to Alpha Native last Sunday at Upcott Cross and may find this race comes a bit too soon.

The final race of the day is the Barton Solicitors sponsored Open Maiden with 21 entries. Of these King Kash and Foxy Dolly look to have promising recent form.

There is on course catering, bar and bookies, together with a host of trade stands. Entry is £20 Car and occupants £10 car and driver.
