Edwards lifts Cobbett Cup at East Devon

PUBLISHED: 12:02 28 August 2014 | UPDATED: 12:02 28 August 2014

In last week’s Journal I pronounced Michael Hayes as the winner of the monthly Stableford and Cobbett Cup both played on August 16, writes Paul Willoughby.

Whilst I only recorded the information I was given, unfortunately it turns out that the info was incorrect – damn computers! Both Michael Hayes and Bill Edwards had 40 points but on countback, Bill had 22 points whereas Michael only (‘Only?’; I’d pay good money for his score!) had 20, so Bill is the winner.

Apologies to both of them – Bill for not getting the publicity he deserved and Michael for having the glory snatched from him. Bill lives in the USA and returned there a day or two after the competition. He would have missed the annual prize giving so here he is receiving the Cobbett Cup a couple of months earlier from Club Managing Secretary, Julian Reynolds.

As for Michael, well I just hope his tears have reduced to a mere trickle!
