An 18-strong from the East Devon Shortmat Bowls League travelled to Wincanton to take part in the Presidents Cup which is held annually, writes Eric Pavey.

It involves five leagues who play a day long competition involving matches against each other.

As this was only the second time East Devon had been invited to take part in this competition they were fully prepared to play against strong opposition.

The morning started with East Devon up against Mendip League and in two session’s consisting of one pair, one triple and a four in each.

East Devon won one pair and two triples’ to bank six points.

Next up they faced Blackmore Vale, wining two pairs, one triple and a four, gaining eight points. The third session was against Yeovil and they won one pair, two triple’s and one four to take eight points.

Their final game paired them with Taunton in a contest that East Devon knew if they registered three wins then they’d be crowned overall winners!

They duly won two pair’s, one triple and two four’s matches to bank ten points and complete the day with 32 points, four more than the field with Blackmore Vale taking second place with 28 points.
