The finals day of the East Devon Junior League was held on the final Thursday of August at Honiton writes Paul Willoughby
The six members representing East Devon for the semi-final were Lewis White (4), Ben French (11), Emily Morey (11), Maddie Stone (12) David Priestner (14) and James Underwood (23) – all young golfers with a future.
The semi-finals were scheduled to take place between Tiverton and East Devon, and between Fingle Glen and Padbrook Park. Unfortunately, Padbrook were unable to field a team so Fingle Glen got a walk over through to the final.
Tiverton, who had won all their league matches, drew with East Devon, three-3. Maddie Stone holed a brilliant putt on the 18th hole which secured the draw.
Lewis White and Tiverton’s Harry Konig, one of Tiverton’s lower handicappers competed in the play off in a nail biting match which went to the 20th hole when the match was won by Lewis.
Sadly, East Devon lost to Fingle Glen in the afternoon by four matches to one with two halved.
Notwithstanding the loss the East Devon team are a force to be reckoned with and should be congratulated on getting to the final.
Special thanks to those who played in the qualifying matches, Cubby Tinsley, Jack Sharland, Max Weeks, Grace Jackson, Eddie Jackson, Heidi Jones and Charlotte Husband. Well done to Team ED.
