The Exe League was inaugurated in 2012 when representatives from four clubs, Tiverton, Exeter, Woodbury and East Devon decided to hold an annual set of competitive fixtures, writes Paul Willoughby.
Each team consists of 12 players and there are four matches throughout the year with each club hosting once; all 48 players attend each fixture.
On the match day, each club plays three pairs of Foursomes and three pairs of Fourballs and all scores are added together.
League points are awarded based on the total points scored. OK so far?
East Devon were lying in second place at the start of the final match, held at Woodbury on Sunday, September 8.
Having won the trophy last year, in order to retain it, EDGC needed to win on the day and for Tiverton to finish last! However, pattern of the year was repeated with East Devon narrowly finishing second on the day, somewhat ahead of Exeter and Woodbury, but just behind the new league winners, Tiverton.
Never mind; well done, Tiverton and we shall meet you again in 2014.
