The captain of East Devon Golf Club, Dennis Chivers and ladies captain, Di Willoughby formally launched their 2013 charity at the golf club last Saturday, writes Paul Willoughby.

Their charity is the WESC foundation, formerly the West of England School for Children with little or no sight and they have been supporting blind and partially sighted children and young people for almost 175 years.

Maggie Garrett from the charity talked to the members and explained that the money raised by WESC’s supporters helps blind and partially sighted children and young people with additional disabilities to have the same opportunities and life chances as their sighted peers.

Over 100 blind or visually impaired children and young people attend WESC daily, weekly or all year round. Most of the children and young people at WESC contend with complex needs such as cerebral palsy and autism.

To make sure the children and young people have the best education, care and fun WESC have a team of over 300 specialist staff.

The team at WESC strive to give the children and young people the best start in life by developing their life skills, confidence and independence.

Over 80 members attended the launch which was followed by supper.
