East Budleigh 1, Heavitree Social 2
This was another disappointing result for East Budleigh who once again failed to play at their best in a game which they should be winning, writes Mark Auton.
Budleigh passing was not good enough and they also lacked cohesion.
Heavitree had the best of the early exchanges forcing a string of corners from which Darren Dawes cleared off the line.
Midway through the half Budleigh gifted the away side the lead and were also lucky not to go two behind as Heavitree squandered a good chance.
Norbert Taras, recently signed from Exmouth Amateurs, made his debut in the midfield alongside Tim Whiteoak and it was a free-kick from the latter that saw Si Tuley head Budleigh’s best opportunity into the keepers arms.
Budleigh grafted in the second half, but failed to gamble on the aerial power of Spencer West; Budleigh keeper Rob Dance made a fine save but was beaten by an excellently struck second goal.
Jack Howarth was introduced to the action and Aaron Denny moved to a more comfortable centre of the park and these changes helped as the former saw an overhead kick saved.
The consolation goal came with almost the last kick as Whiteoak provided the perfect pass for Tuley to finish smartly.
Budleigh host Colyton on Saturday with a victory imperative for the Jays.
East Budleigh Reserves are in action at Amory Argyle (Tiverton).
