Topsham Town 3rds 5, East Budleigh Reserves 1
With no referee for their game at Topsham, East Budleigh Reserves were delayed forty minutes before Budleigh linesman Guy Wheatley stepped in, writes Mark Auton.
The delay did not help Budleigh who made a sluggish start and found themselves two down in the first fifteen minutes.
Budleigh then began to find their feet; Ryan Britton and the excellent Harry Trick produced some fine approach play, whilst Max Tooby, Tom Christian and Gary Western all got in behind the home defence, but the hosts held out to the break.
Early in the second period casual defending saw Budleigh punished again and despite Budleigh playing some good football they could not find the back of the net.
Topsham scored the last three goals including one in their own net for Budleigh’s consolation.
Sometimes in football you don’t always get what you deserve and this result was a little harsh on a Budleigh side that make the trip to Halwill this Saturday.
The plaudits on the day should go to Guy Wheatley who stepped in to one of the worst jobs in the game to allow this one to go ahead.
