Halwill Reserves 3, East Budleigh Reserves 1
East Budleigh Reserves made the long journey to Halwill last Saturday where they came up against a heavy pitch, against a well organised and robust side sporting three new signings that day and eventually went down 3-1, writes Mark Auton.
That said, Budleigh started well with Man of the Match Ben Wyatt, Max Tooby and Harry Trick all contributing to some good approach play whilst Tom Christian peppered the home goal with his set pieces, but Budleigh just failed to find that elusive finish.
The home side took the lead with a far post header which turned out to be the only goal of the half.
With the pitching cutting up badly after the interval Budleigh were forced to go route one and this seemed to suit the home side who coped a lot better with the surface.
Halwill proceeded to net twice more which was a bit harsh on Budleigh keeper Mark Bown who had made some excellent saves during the game.
The one highlight for Budleigh came from the boot of Ryan Britton who sweetly struck a 20-yard free-kick that curled into the net ‘Suarez esque’.
This Saturday Budleigh entertain Ottery St Mary Reserves at Vicarage Road (2.15pm).
