East Budleigh continued their build up to the new Football season against Newton Poppleford, but will have been disappointed to share eight goals in what was a sloppy end to the game, writes Mark Auton.
Budleigh were generally the better side and had the lead through the impressive Mike White.
After the visitors had levelled, Budleigh took control with two quick goals before the break; Jamie Drummond and White combined to set up Jack Howarth who finished tidily, before the hard working Josh Whiller set up White for his second of the game.
The second half saw White denied a hat-trick after Adam Jones and Drummond had combined, before Newton added a second.
The two goal cushion was restored by Dan Atkinson and it could have been more as the away stopper produced some fine keeping.
In the closing minutes Newton manages to level things up in what was a poor end to the game for Budleigh.
Despite this they should take the positives into their opening league game at Westexe on Saturday and when they entertain Exmouth Amateurs on Tuesday at Vicarage Road (6.30pm).
East Budleigh Reserves start their campaign with a home game against Newton St Cyres (3pm) on Saturday.
