East Devon seniors Accumulator team event success for John Maidment, Roy Henderson and David Cole.

The East Devon seniors played their three ball Accumulator team event, writes Paul Willoughby.

Teams of three with a diabolical scoring formula – one score to count on the first six holes, two on the next six but all three to count on the last six.

No pressure for the first six; a bit more on the next six then pressure/stress/anxiety/worry for the final few holes.

were on hand in the clubhouse to await those who succumbed and couldn’t take the strain; stretchers were required for those who drove into the pit on the 18th or three putted. This was not a competition for the faint hearted but the seniors (described in my dictionary (immediately after ‘senile dementia!) as ‘higher in rank, older in years, relating to adulthood, maturity – Yes, I can live with that!) are a hardy bunch and only three (Yes, they did play together) remain in hospital.

The winning team in this horrendous and arduous challenge consisted of John Maidment, Roy Henderson and David Cole with an excellent score of 81 points.

Second, but only on countback (“We was robbed Guv’ “), also with 81 points was the team of John Thatcher, Charlie Kerslake and John Pulman. Well done, both teams.

The other leading scorers were: 3, George Rogers, Martin Bright and Bill Ficken – 74; 4, (on countback), Mike Moore, Tony Mackness and Morton Middleditch, also 74; 5, Norman Forte, Mike England and Roger Shorland – 71; 6, (on countback), Ian Sampson, Robert Harland and Graham Taylor, also 71.

There was a twos pot of £72 to be shared between five teams.
