The Ladies’ of East Devon Golf Club have had a very successful year in the County competition for the Sheelah Creasy Bowl.

The team consisted of Julie Clarke, Hilary Drew, Dot Gill, Jan Harvey, Linda Holdway, Pat Jarvis, Linda Knapton, Jacquie Lee, Deirdre Mackness, Barbara Mellor, Mo Reynolds, Judy Robinson, Sally Shackleton, Sandra Sydenham, Lisa Tinsley, Eileen Toon, Elaine Whitehead and Pat Wisdom.

The draw this year was a tough one, with East Devon’s opponents being Honiton, Thurlestone and Stover.

Two matches were played against each team, one away and the other one at home; the team did brilliantly and won all their matches.

They had to play the quarter finals at Tavistock where their opponents were Tiverton.

The conditions on the day of the match were appalling – lots of wind and rain, but yet again the team came up trumps and won the match.

The next step was the semi finals which were held at Exminster Golf Club.

The draw this time was against a very strong team from Saunton. Unfortunately East Devon lost, but it was a very close result at 4-3.

The county president, Jane Easterbrook presented the Runners-up trophy to the team captain, Di Willoughby. Mrs Willoughby thanked her team, caddies and supporters and congratulated them on such a successful season.

Next year the team will be headed by Elaine Whitehead and the East Devon Ladies’ will yet again be doing their best to win the Sheelah Creasy bowl.
