The East Devon Still Cup team took on Torquay ladies in a repeat of last year’s county inter-club flagship final, writes Helen Chivers.

The seven singles matches played off scratch featured seven DevonGolf county players and one past Curtis Cup captain across the two teams.

Torquay took the lead early on as Keeley Clarke beat Evie Stone five up with four to play in game one.

Game five finished on the 13th hole as Torquay’s Sally Spokes beat Sally Underwood six up with five to play, but Eilidh Cameron soon closed the deficit as she won on the same hole, seven up with five to play, against Laura Colman.

Game four then also went the way of Torquay with Vicky Holloway winning on the 17th hole against Helen Chivers, three up with one to play.

Games two and three were all square after 18 holes and saw Claire Dowling and Emily Morey head down the 19th hole. The final was decided as Charlotte Dommett of Torquay secured the win in game two against Claire Dowling, making the overall match score 4-1 to Torquay.

Game three between Emily Morey and Molly Pavey and the final game between Alison Corney and Fiona Parsons didn’t need to finish and were called in.

East Devon were runners-up for the second year running, taking home the E Young Bowl once again, but they are determined to go one better next year.
