East Budleigh Chess Club complete excellent first season

PUBLISHED: 10:58 22 May 2014 | UPDATED: 11:03 22 May 2014

A successful rapid play tournament was held at the last meeting of the East Budleigh Chess Club’s club’s first ever season, writes Brian Gosling.

Players only have ten minutes per game on their clocks to play all of their moves. Many exciting and interesting chess games were played. Mike Lee came first followed by junior player Rhys McGauley, with Brian Le Masurier third.

There is a strong rumour that chess fever has hit the village and that even the scarecrows are playing the game! If you are lucky you may spot a chess-playing scarecrow in the village in June!

We would welcome anyone at the club with an interest in chess of whatever ability.

There is always an opportunity for stronger players to play in teams in the Exeter and District Chess League, but this need not deter you if you would rather play on a less competitive basis.

The next meeting will be on September 11 (7pm) at All Saints Church Hall. For more information on all things East Budleigh Chess Club email Brian Gosling at brigosling@aol.com or call him on 01395 442060.
