Budleigh 1:1 Totnes and Dartington
Budleigh and the visitors produced a lively, high tempo start to proceedings to such an effect that the games only two goals came in the opening seven minutes, writes Alan Beer.
The visitors were first to strike when Joachim Turner ran onto a through ball and slotted past Adrian Pullin for the opener. Four minutes later Adam Turner was fouled just outside the box. Up stepped Brett Wright, good to see him playing at Budleigh again, to bend the free kick around the wall and just inside the visiting keeper’s left hand post.
The visitors could have restored the lead but a cross from James Spence was headed wide by Turner. Then Pullin did well to push a header from Tom Comyn over the bar.
Budleigh’s only reply came on 40 minutes when Jack Greenslade crossed from the right, but Adam Turner headed wide.
The start of the second period saw Budleigh go close again. Tim Nield worked well to get a cross in to the edge of the 18 yard box, but Greenslade put his shot just wide. With 50 minutes on the clock Pullin fouled Lisam Linden in the area but then redeemed himself by saving the spot kick taken by Ben Bewhay.
Midway through the half Greenslade again missed a chance to put Budleigh ahead
when keeper Wood blocked his close range shot. Both sides then missed chances to win the game. Robins’ player-boss Danny Williams, on from the bench, had a chance with ten minutes remaining but could only fire over the bar from close range.
The point leaves Budleigh in tenth place in the table. They are without a game this weekend and are next in League action on Saturday week (February 25) when they travel to Exeter Civil Service.
