Upottery 1, Lympstone 2
The Lympets were good value for the victory.
What made the success all the more pleasing was that travelled missing a number of regular starters.
The home team started brightly. However, once a changed Lympets line-up settled into the pace of the game they began to create things with debut making Richie Tuckett in the thick of the action. On the half hour the home side took the lead and carried that into half-time.
The half-time team talk clearly inspired the Lympets for they were much sharper after the break and were deservedly level when Chris Hooker scored superb individual gal with his left foot.
With the home side back-pedalling the Lympets duly got the second goal their industry and adventure deserved when a delicate ball from Chris Hindmarch through the home defence found Mark Dunne who, more calmly than normal when faced with a one-on-one situation slid the ball into the bottom corner!
Upottery responded well and did see a shot cannon back of the bar. Pete Smith was summoned from the bench as the Lympets looked to shore things up in midfield.
For the last 20 minutes Upottery threw everything at Lympstone, but were unable to find a way through an organised and hard-working back line.
Picking a Man of the Match from such a fabulous team effort is difficult, but on this occasions Jeff Dorman wins the honour for his non-stop effort defending from the front and tracking back. On Saturday Lympstone host high flying Crediton with the returning players needing to fight for their places!
